For now nine solid years, The Aliguma Foundation, in conjunction with a host of partners have continued to impact positively to the local communities particularly in Banda, Masindi and elsewhere.

 

Through the Aliguma Foundation Banda Slums Soccer Tournament, all clusters of people have been unified under the theme “Reuse, Recycle and Reduce”.

 

The youth and elderly, male and female, Christians and Muslims, educated and illiterate as well as all factions in political affiliations have all celebrated together.



 

The grand finale was held at the famous Acholi quarters playground on 30th January 2025, graced by a mammoth gathering, area leaders and Joel Boutroue, a former UN representative in Uganda.

 

The epic day also witnessed a general cleaning drive to get rid of plastics and polyene papers and other solid wastes.



 

There was a brass band that entertained the people before the business end of football which witnessed the U-13, persons with disabilities and the grand finale.

 

In the U-13 final, The Aliguma Foundation overcame Hilton 3-1 to take gold medals and a trophy.

 

The interesting match between the male Persons with Disabilities and the Banda women (mothers) was won by the specially abled people 7-1.



 

Brian Kanyike led the assault with a haul (four goals) to his name for the PWD’s.

 

Skipper Alex Mugerwa, Damastin Ojok and goalkeeper Jonathan Ojok each added a goal.

 

The main final had Tigers smile 3-1 over Banda Select in the thrilling finale.

 

Innocent Tumuhimbise, Kenneth Nadduli and Hudson Mbalire scored the goals for Tigers.

 

Banda Select’s consolation came from Alex “Hazard” Mutebi.

 

The winning team (Tigers) got gold medals, a trophy and a bull for their effort with Banda Select earning silver medals.

 

The Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament was Kenneth Naduuli (Tigers) whilst Dennis Ola (Acholi Quarters Raiders) was top scorer.



 

Ritah Aliguma, the CEO of The Aliguma Foundation hailed the different participating teams, leaders and their players.

 

Aliguma saluted the cooperation of residents in Acholi Quarters and the general Banda scoop for unifying in good solid waste management.

 

“I am humbled that we have managed to successfully end the Aliguma Foundation Banda Slums soccer tournament. I thank all the 60 teams that took part, the players and their leaders. Our theme for this edition has been Reuse, Reduce and Recycle. Residents have obliged to dispose off solid wastes responsibly which better the hygiene for a safer and cleaner environment” Aliguma stated.

 

The league commenced way back on 24th November 2024.



This edition has been a testament to the transformative power of sports in addressing both societal challenges and positive community building.
