On December 19, the Acholi Quarters Playground in Kampala came alive with excitement as the Aliguma Foundation and Alton Basketball Club Outreach teamed up to host a spectacular End-of-Year Xmas Party. This heartwarming event was more than just a celebration—it was a testament to the power of community, sustainability, and shared joy during the festive season.
Under the theme “Reduce, Recycle, Reuse,” the day began with a community clean-up exercise led by Alton Basketball Club volunteers, who worked tirelessly alongside the slum area’s natives, youth and children to promote environmental awareness and create a cleaner, healthier neighborhood.
Health check-ups
Free medical check-ups provided much-needed healthcare services to residents, setting a tone of care and support for the day’s activities.
Children were at the heart of the celebrations, enjoying a variety of games such as sack races, rope pulling (tug of war), bouncing castles, and a mini-sports day.
The air was filled with music from talented local DJs as families came together to share meals, laughter, and the spirit of togetherness. The event culminated in a gift distribution ceremony, ensuring every child left with a smile, and a traditional cake-cutting that sealed the festive atmosphere.
Special applause
The Aliguma Foundation extended heartfelt thanks to its partners, including the UEFA Foundation for Children, U.S. Department of State Global Sports Mentoring Program, U.S. Embassy Kampala, Ola Aina, and others, whose support—financial, logistical, and moral—made the day unforgettable for the Acholi Quarters community.
